Ranking Evidence-Based Practice
Description The goal of Modelo de Intervencion Psicomedica is to reduce high-risk behaviors that can lead to infection and transmission of HIV among intravenous drug users. This program targets Hispanic adults.

Program participants attended six one-on-one counseling sessions during which motivational interviewing strategies were implemented. These sessions addressed goal setting, decision-making, reinforcement, self-monitoring, and attitude change and were conducted by a registered nurse that had received intensive training.

Also, participants worked with a case manager who helped them address any problems that could interfere with their participation in the program and in accessing drug treatment, primary health care services, housing, social welfare, and/or legal assistance.
